Moving through menopause

Reclaiming your body, identity & purpose

6-week programme

Menopause is the gateway to the ‘Power’ phase of a woman’s life

So why does it feel like ‘trial by fire’?

Our hormones derail us. Our energy disappears down the plughole. Our libido changes. We are no longer ‘of breeding age’.  What is our purpose now? Our identity? All of this takes its toll on how we feel about ourselves.

Advertising bombards us with images of youthful ‘healthy’ female bodies. The middle-aged female body is largely absent from the media. We become invisible.

“I’m still here!” we yell.

Despite the hormonal chaos, this can be a time when we step into our power as Matriarch, Maga or Amazon.

It’s time to rediscover our mid-life body, sensuality, purpose, and identity.

Maga, Matriarch, Amazon…

This 6-week programme encourages you to rediscover and reclaim your mid-life body, explore your new sensuality, energy levels, passions, and purpose in life. Finding self-acceptance and self-compassion for the changes to your body and the hormonal rollercoaster ride.

Who will you become as you step into your Feminine Power?

What societal roles will you drop?

What will you leave as your legacy?

Let’s talk about the benefits for you…

Sarah explains more about the programme and how movement therapy helps you tap into that deeper, instinctual part of you in this video.

About your Workshop Host

Sarah Tuckett is an anxiety specialist, body psychotherapist, counsellor and dance movement therapist based in Brisbane. She has been joyfully leading movement workshops since 2015.

She has helped hundreds of clients over the last seven years get their life back from the grips of anxiety, stress, trauma, relationship issues and more.

She has a Masters of Mental Health as well as qualifications in dance-movement therapy and body psychotherapy. As a body-oriented psychotherapist, she combines talk therapy with movement and breathing to help you get to the root of the problem and create change. She offers 1:1 therapy for adults, group therapy, workshops and online courses.

Sarah spends her free time dancing flamenco, practising yoga, pilates and playing the Cello imperfectly (and loving it).

If you would like to work with Sarah, learn more here or contact her on 0450 22 00 59.

Through movement we remember

Movement therapy increases your ability to ‘listen’ to your body, promoting a higher level of body awareness. As we move our body images, thoughts, and feelings arise, connecting you to your subconscious mind, to your core self.

As we increase the different ways that you move your body there is an associated increase in your mental flexibility and the possibilities you are open to.

What do you want to reach out and grab?

Let’s move, breathe, enquire, draw, journal, discover, and remember who you really are. Connecting to your inner rhythms and inner reality. Connecting to others.

What will we be doing?

Each weekly session is a mini-workshop of 1.5 hours where we explore a different aspect of this transition.  This supportive circle of women will help you to transform your way of feeling about yourself in this next phase of your life.

Each session will involve some guided movement and breathing and then an experiential where you move your own way and rediscover your inner world.  This will be followed by self-reflection to help you connect with your inner thoughts and feelings, and then an opportunity to share your experience in small groups if you wish.  Please note that each session will predominantly be about moving and self-discovery/reflection.  There will be very little talking.  Probably only 15 mins of talking at the end.

Everything is offered as an invitation. There is no ‘have to’ or ‘should’.  If you want to lie on the floor the entire session, go for it!

Weeks 1 and 2

Week 1 – Body

In week 1 we create the framework and intention for this 6-week programme. We begin with the foundations – our body. Let’s see if we can ‘re-friend’ our body, finding compassion, gratitude and acceptance for the changes taking place. How do you feel about your body, shape, joints? How different is the person inside compared to the woman you see in your reflection? How can you support your body in this transition? What does it need from you?

Week 2 – Energy Economy

In week 2 we look at finding a new balance in our lives – finding our energy economy. Is your energy affected by the seasons or by the lunar cycles? If you’re still trying to run your life as if you have the energy of a 22-year-old (and then you collapse in a heap), then perhaps it is time to recalibrate your expectations as you pass through menopause. What’s important in your life? and what’s just ‘busyness’?  Let’s tap into your body to find out.

Weeks 3 and 4

Week 3 The hormonal rollercoaster

Ahh, the joys of ‘reverse puberty’! One minute you’re Godzilla, the next you’re irrational and teary. Let’s see if we can develop some compassion for ourselves as we navigate this ring of fire. If we listened carefully to our anger, what would be underneath it? What is the meno-rage protecting? How could we support ourselves through this rollercoaster ride? Let’s see how you might be able to tap into this wildness and discover what is underneath her. What does your inner Amazon/Maga want you to know or feel?

Week 4 Identity and Purpose

As you transition through mid-life you may start asking yourself: “Who am I now that I am ‘middle-aged’? What is my role now that I am no longer of ‘breeding age’? I am still HERE and I am still useful to society. What is my role for the rest of my life?”

Is there a super-power that you’ve been hiding? It’s time to let yourself shine, lady!

If you have somewhere between 20-40 more years on this planet and you are no longer bound by the expectations that are put onto younger women – what do you want to do with this next phase of your life?  Let’s cut through the ‘ought to’ and ‘should’ by asking your body and your subconscious mind…

Weeks 5 and 6

Week 5 Sensuality and Sexuality

Week 5 – my favorite – sensuality and sexuality. Maybe you’ve got more dyed hair than natural, and maybe you’ve got a meno-pot (belly) – you’re still one hot sensual woman, lady! Ok so maybe you don’t feel like it all the time, and maybe your libido has gone down the toilet. But there is NO AGE LIMIT ON SENSUALITY. Just look at Sophia Loren.

Let’s explore our feminine sensuality and your take on sexuality through movement. Let that feline out of the cage…

Week 6 – Crowning your Maga, your Autumn Queen

Our last week together. This is where we wrap it all up. We call in what we desire for this next, powerful phase of our lives. And we let go of the past, thanking it for everything we have learned. Matriarch, Maga, Amazon, Autumn Queen. However you think of it – this is your time to shine. What legacy are you going to leave in this world?

Who is this workshop for?

For women of any age going through menopause, peri-menopause, or post-menopause.  Whether it is happening naturally or due to medical intervention.  It is a supportive, movement therapy group for women of any sexual orientation, body shape, and size. You just need a body and a willingness to move and explore your inner world.

You do not need to be a ‘dancer’ to attend. Let’s kick that inner critic to the kerb and find some joy and pleasure in moving your body! Movement and breathing is something we all do naturally.  Nobody will be watching you. They will all be doing their own thing! This is about moving your body in any way that feels good to you. And maybe trying out some different ways of moving, expanding your physical vocabulary, and at the same time increasing your mental flexibility.

It is for the curious and reflective among us who want to tap into those forgotten parts of ourselves through gentle movement, breathing, and self-inquiry in a safe, warm, supportive environment.  Connecting to your inner rhythms and inner reality. Connecting to others.

How to know if this programme is for you

This programme is for you if:

  • You are struggling with the changes in your body and identity as you move through menopause.
  • You want to change how you feel about yourself and your relationship with your body.
  • You feel a calling to let go of past roles in your life and step into your Feminine Power.
  • You have a curious mind and want to tap into your subconscious through movement and breathing.
  • You like moving your body.
  • You are committed to attending the 6 weeks of the programme.  Your programme-sisters gain emotional support from your presence. Your absence will affect them.
  • You are happy to participate as a confidential, non-judgemental and compassionate member of the group.

This programme may not be for you if:

  • You don’t really like moving your body.
  • You know you can talk the hind-leg off a donkey. Perhaps a talking therapy group would be more up your alley? This is not a ‘talking’ therapy group.
  • You want somewhere to just vent your feelings. The focus in this group is on self-inquiry and reflection through movement and experiential. There will not be a lot of time for unloading or processing feelings (max 15 minutes at the end of each session).
  • You know you are someone who dominates a group discussion.  My focus is on the group as a whole, giving everyone equal air-time.
  • You have been diagnosed with a personality disorder.

If you’re not a ‘group’ person, maybe individual therapy might be a better fit for you?  I’m happy to listen, call me on 0450 22 00 59.
